Useful Word Variants

This list of words opens up more options for root words that are rarely used without a prefix, or normally with only one prefix.  To be clear, we don't know if these are real words or not, we just like them.

appointed adj.  feeling uplifted or hopeful [adjusted from disappointed]

"This great news about our dinner plans leaves me very appointed!"

ept   adj.  having or showing an average level of skill in a specific area [adjusted from inept]

"When it came to the dishes, Bonnie was totally ept."

hausted   adj.   feeling a normal strength or energy level [adjusted from exhausted]

"After taking care of my commitments for the day, I still felt completely hausted and ready for the evening's activities."

inhausted   adj.   feeling a sense of stored energy ready to be released [adjusted from exhausted]

"The sprinters were inhausted as they awaited the starter pistol."

outstinct n.   a substantial departure from normal patterns or behaviors [adjusted from instinct]

"Normally I head straight home after work every day, but today after work I followed my outstinct and caught a flight to Mexico!" 

pointful adj.  making terrific sense or being very useful [adjusted from pointless]

"That errand she sent me on was completely pointful."

plussed adj.  feeling at ease and confident in how to react [adjusted from nonplussed]

"I was plussed when she asked me to go pick up some groceries."

returb v. to agitate again after someone or something has been pacified [adjusted from disturb]

"Nolan had just calmed down after the earthquake when the aftershock returbed him."

superept   adj.   exhibiting a high level of skill in a specific area [adjusted from inept]

"The blacksmith was superept when it came time to use her chisel."

turb v. to agitate [adjusted from disturb]

"Reginald!  Don't turb your sister with that water pistol!"

whelmed    adj.   a state of feeling a moderate or average level reaction [adjusted from over- or underwhelmed]

"That plate of chicken, rice, and salad I was served left me whelmed."
